West African Textiles

Nigerian batik

A small collection of West African textiles was significantly added to in 2014 with the donation of the O’Hear Collection of Nigerian and Ghanaian textiles.

The O’Hear Collection contains both hand drawn and stenciled batiks and complex weaves, including Adire block printing, stencil prints and tie-dye, Aso-Oke and Kente style strip weaves, Akwuete, Aniocha,  Okene and Bida cloths.

Further West African donations from other sources have included Jubilee Adire cloths, Dutch wax style textiles, tie-dye and a number of garments.
